Allowing Businesses to Control What's on Their Screens
The OnePoint allows users to monitor and control multiple TV receivers with ease. The application was designed with restaurants, bars, and gyms in mind. When you're "in the weeds and Table 12 asks to watch the Tennessee game, no one wants to do the added work of finding the remote that's always in a different spot and going through the entire guide looking for the game while food is up and drink orders need to entered. Often the receiver was so far away from the TV, the user would have to walk back and forth to confirm inputs went through. One restaurant chain tasked their managers with creating a daily guide with all the games and events times along with the channel numbers.
Based on our interviews with our early adopters, our team determined a set of functionality for an MVP. Because our users liked and were used to a traditional TV guide, we kept the guide, but added quick filters and favorite channels. We allowed users to organize their TVs by groups to better locate the TV and quickly control multiple TV with a few clicks. The user can easily see the program information for each receiver.
When the MVP was built, we continued testing. After observing how users completed tasks, we identified areas we could improve. For example, several users had trouble completing tasks in the Remote area of the UI. With a few small changes, the error rate fell drastically. Our team also suggested adding animated microinteractions to increase the visibility of system status.
The OnePoint won the CE Pro 2018 Best Award for UI Design. We contined to implement changes while monitoring usage analytics and customer satisfaction. We have received positive feedback on the product so far. We’re continuing to identify improvements that will best meet customer needs as well as business needs. For example, we’re incorporating our game-locating product into the OnePoint app to help users find their college football games.
